March 2, 2024(1 event) SENSORY-FRIENDLY CONCERT HALL TOURS – Young people with autism or sensory sensitivities are invited backstage at the Concert Hall for a small group tour. Play instruments on the stage, visit the artists’ dressing rooms, learn about how the lights and sound work, and more. All children and teens must be accompanied by an adult. Each person attending must have a free ticket. Due to the small-group nature of this program, we recommend reserving tickets in advance, which also helps us plan. Adventure Theatre 7300 MacArthur Blvd Glen Echo, MD 20812 Smithsonian Folklife Festival – The Smithsonian Folklife Festival honors contemporary living cultural traditions and celebrates those who practice and sustain them. This year’s Festival, Indigenous Voices of the Americas: Celebrating the National Museum of the American Indian, highlights living traditions of Indigenous peoples within the Northern, Central, and Southern Americas. Visitors at the Festival can enjoy a wide range of music and dance performances, artisan workshops, cooking demonstrations, hands-on activities, narrative sessions and conversations, and more. Representing First Nations in Nova Scotia, Canada, Sons of Membertou present Mi’kmaw music traditions through drum repertoire and the Mi’kmaw language. This concert publicly kicks off a collaboration with the group that will culminate in a future Smithsonian Folkways album. Presented with Smithsonian Folkways Recordings and the Embassy of Canada to the United States to mark Canada Day. Accessible seating and assisted listening are available.
