Folklife Marketplace: Handmade By and For The People
–
June 30, 2026 – July 5, 2026
Presented by the Smithsonian Center for Folklife & Cultural Heritage, the Folklife Marketplace honors the creativity, cultural heritage, and masterful skills of artisans from around the world who have participated in the Smithsonian Folklife Festival over the years. As an extension of the Festival, the Marketplace is both an online and in-person experience that encourages visitors to connect with makers from across the globe.
In the summer of 2026, shop, make, and connect at the Smithsonian’s Arts and Industries Building. The Marketplace is bringing together artists and makers from across the United States in a place where culture is not just displayed but actively exchanged—a living expression of craft, creativity, and community. Guided by fair-trade principles and cultural heritage research, the Marketplace has curated products from U.S.-based artists and makers that tell stories of culture, community, and craft.
Visitors can attend demonstrations and hands-on workshops with local and visiting artists, enjoy music and interviews at our Radio Corner, and explore Folklife Festival history in the Storied Objects exhibition.
The venue is wheelchair accessible. ASL interpretation will be provided for selected events and additional ASL interpreting services may be requested onsite and are provided as available. See the online schedule for detailed information. Register for hands-on workshops at: https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/folklife-marketplace-2026-4841688
